Why We're Here

The most fundamental question any church (or other organisation) can ask is "why are we here?" What is Quaystone for?

We believe that the Bible provides us with some very clear answers, in particular in two sayings from the teaching of Jesus.

made to worshiptnt
‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’
(Matthew 23:37-39)

In the  Bible, love is only love when it is expressed. In this Scripture, Jesus points us to two ways to express our love -

  • Vertically, in worship, where we offer our bodies, in fact our very lives, to God
  • Horizontally, in service, where we use our abilities and energies to help others, within the church or outside it.

Whatever kind of love we are expressing, our goal is to do it passionately and wholeheartedly, as Jesus commands us.

And we know that every individual in the church, with their unique God-given gifts, has a part to play in helping the church to fulfil Jesus' commandment.

"Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19-20)

In this second Scripture, Jesus is calling on his disciples to multiply, by working with God's Spirit to help others to have the same life-changing experience of Jesus that they had received, and to equip them to live the radical life that He had shown them was possible.

This is so much more than just getting bums on seats! Again, a two-part response is required -

  • Reaching out to friends, neighbours, family and anyone else we meet, who needs to experience the transforming love of God.
  • Growing ourselves and others into the mature followers of Christ that He intends us to be.

So our goal at Quaystone is to make sure everyone is nourished by the Bible, the 'Word of God', and watered by the empowering presence of God's Spirit when we gather together.

This, then, is the goal of Quaystone on the Isle of Dogs - to bring people in, train them up, send them out in service, and glorify Jesus. That's why we are here!
